Join us for a discussion featuring community leader and youth role model, Michael Linklater, as he shares his story. Learn about his work in promoting sports in Indigenous communities and finding ways to give back to his community.

Tea and bannock will be served.


Hosted by the Friends of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, the SGI Solstice Speaker Series is built around the natural calendar and provides an opportunity to reflect on the emotion and changes that happen each season. Topics are current, thought provoking, and designed to create active participation towards Truth and Reconciliation.

Michael Linklater

Michael Linklater, a highly accomplished basketball player from Thunderchild First Nation, he has won national championships in university, professional, and competed for team Canada at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup. Inducted into Saskatoon sports and North American indigenous Athletics Hall of Fame, he's an Indigenous youth advocate and founder of "Boys with Braids." He was invited to the first ever Native American heritage month reception at the White House, serves on the boards of Wanuskewin and Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation, he was a member of the FIBA 3x3 Commission, and currently sits on the Canada Basketball Hall of Fame selection committee. A seasoned speaker for over 24 years, he's a proud father dedicated to a healthy lifestyles. He co-founded Sohkisiwin solutions, he’s a Nike N7 Ambassador, promoting sports in Indigenous communities. Michael continues to find ways to give back to his community by helping wherever he can. 

Michael is deeply committed to giving back to his community. He has served on the Board of Directors for Thunder Developments and the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation, and co-chair of the "Early Learning. Equal Start." campaign, which aims to raise $20 million for early childhood education in Saskatoon. He is also a member of the FIBA 3x3 Commission, the Canada Basketball Hall of Fame selection committee, the CEBL Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee, and the Saskatchewan Rough Riders Indigenous Task Force, and the Toronto Raptors indigenous advisory circle. 

In addition to his involvement in sports and community organizations, Michael is a professional speaker with over 24 years of experience. He has delivered hundreds of keynote addresses to thousands of youth and adults across the globe, including events by the international Olympic Committee and Canadian Olympic committee, sharing various topics and messages of inspiration and cultural importance. As a father, he is deeply committed to modeling a healthy lifestyle for his children and encouraging youth to live drug and alcohol-free.

Michael is the co-founder of Sokisiwin solutions, where he shares his wealth of knowledge and experience to help bridge the gap between non-indigenous and  indigenous groups. He is also a Nike N7 Ambassador, working to promote sport and physical activity in Indigenous communities. With his numerous athletic, community, and advocacy achievements, Michael Linklater is a true leader and role model for all.
