With summer being our busiest time, we hire seasonal staff to help us create a dynamic experience for our Museum visitors at both our Royal Saskatchewan Museum (Regina, Saskatchewan) and T.rex Discovery Centre (Eastend, Saskatchewan) locations. We house an extensive provincial research collection and hire applicants to assist in preparing, studying and cataloguing artifacts, specimens and objects. For community focused and volunteer opportunities, the Friends of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum group seek candidates to fill positions on their board of directors and the gift shop.

SUMMER JOB: Vertebrate Preparator with the Royal Saskatchewan Museum
The Friends of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum is seeking up-and-coming wildlife biologists to work as zoology lab assistants at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum in Regina, Saskatchewan. The position will focus on the preparation of bird study-skins and skeletons for inclusion into the provincial natural history collection. You can expect to have hands-on experience conducting rigorous data collection and specimen preparation. You will also work with communications staff to develop social media posts about your experience working at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- You must meet all eligibility requirements for the Young Canada Works program.
- At least one year of university or technical diploma in biology/zoology/wildlife biology.
- Able to work independently, but just as importantly, are able to work effectively and respectfully with other summer students and RSM employees.
- Must have good manual dexterity and fine motor skills to work with small specimens for long periods of time
- using tools such as scalpels, tweezers, and scissors.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*
- Formal animal dissection experience or practical experience working with dead animals (e.g., dressing game) is a definite asset. However, we will provide appropriate training as long as you are comfortable with the sights, sounds and textures of animal dissection.
- Basic knowledge of wildlife in Saskatchewan, especially birds.
