SGI Solstice Speaker Series: Michael Greyeyes

Royal Saskatchewan Museum
Tuesday, June 9, 2026, 7:00pm - 8:30pm
(Doors open 30min before event start)

As an Indigenous leader, Michael Greyeyes understands the power of language and the words we use to describe our future serve as medicine to remake the world around us. His keynote discussion, “We Will Write Our Way Out of This”, will highlight his interest in the current snapshot of our world--where inequity and violence are often times on display-- and showcase how individual creative impulses can serve as healing solutions and direction, in a time where reliance or deference to Artificial Intelligence is taking place. Throughout the evening, Michael will use his experience in contemporary film and television to display Indigenous leadership, cultural knowledge, and responsibility to the future.

Michael GreyeyesMichael Greyeyes (Nêhiyaw) is a multi-hyphenate talent – actor, writer, choreographer, and director from Muskeg Lake Cree Nation in Saskatchewan. Widely recognized for over three decades of award-winning performance work in film and television, Greyeyes work has spanned across Canada and the Globe. On the big screen, he has appeared in numerous films including the thriller Wild Indian, Crazy Horse, and Dance Me Outside. On television, Greyeyes has appeared in True Detective, The Walking Dead, and for his work for his role in Rutherford Falls, he received a Film Independent Spirit Award and Gotham Award nomination. Artistic director of Signal Theatre, he has choreographed numerous stage works where his background with Canada’s National Ballet School comes into play. Michael also directed Pimooteewin (The Journey), the first opera written in the Cree language. Currently, Michael is the establishing director and one of the performers for Acting Good, now in its fifth season on CTV’s Comedy Channel.
