yellowjacket

No, this is not an alien, but the face of a yellowjacket, a type of vespid wasp. Most yellowjackets are hunters which capture a wide range of insects for protein, but some species will collect meat from dead animals, including fish, dead birds, etc. Yellowjackets build their nests out of “paper”, chewing small wood fibers from trees, and occasionally even from wooden patios. Paper nests are built in the open up in trees in some species, while others build nest under shelter, or even in the ground.
