Honey Bee

The honey bee is the main managed pollinator of our crops, and is worth billions of dollars for this service. They are not native to the Western Hemisphere, and arrived with early settlers to provide sweetener (honey) and wax. Honey bees are the only social species in North American, north of Mexico that continuously lives in a colony, with no solitary stage. Unfortunately, honey bees are facing many diseases and parasites that put their continued availability for pollination at risk.
