This small, beautiful insect is a chalcid wasp in the genus Brachymeria. Most species of Brachymeria are parasites of moths and flies, some of which are important economic pests. As such, Brachymeria provide some level of biological control. Other species, however, are hyperparasites and attack the fly parasites of moths. The enlarged hind legs are filled with muscles that probably help these little wasps jump into the air to start flight.
