Wasp

This braconid wasp (genus Chelonus) is rather unique in having the upper segments of the abdomen fused into one large “shell-like” segment called a carapace. Chelonus wasps are egg-larva parasites, attacking moth larvae (caterpillars). In many cases, these wasps are considered beneficial as they provide control against caterpillars that eat crops, and several species are used in biological control programs.
